This week has been extremely busy, but I’ve had posting about my exciting news at the back of my mind…and today I finally have some time to share. When I graduated college, I immediately went to work as a PR Manager for a non-profit, and had been working there for the past 2.5 years. Over that time, I started doing some freelance work in my spare time with businesses from Chicago to Boston, thanks to some hard work and putting myself out there to find those opportunities.I had been struggling a bit with the requirement to (mostly) be in-office at a desk eight hours a day, five days a week, knowing that with my efficiency, I could be using my time more effectively. I was contacted and offered a few other jobs, but none of them seemed to be the right fit for what I needed, despite their perks. It festered for a while, and finally, Brandon said, “Why don’t you fix that?”So, for the past several months, Brandon and I have discussed starting our own business. We did the homework, made a plan, and this week, we did it. We made the leap and introduced Lumen, our next adventure.Lumen offers copywriting, social media management and consulting, as well as graphic design. From the relationships we’ve built over the past few years in the professional world, we’ve got a few fantastic contracts in place (with truly interesting subject matter!) that are our starting foundation, and we hope to grow from there. Brandon is still working and in school full-time, so during the week, I’m working on managing our contracts and freelance work.So far, it’s been a whirlwind of activity, but I couldn’t be happier.
I have to say, I’m really proud of Kaleigh. Neither of us are big on talking about ourselves, but she has worked really hard for this and is off to a truly incredible start.
We’ve got some big plans for this that will develop over time. We hope to work with more businesses and organizations as well, both locally and across the country. The website will also be built out more in the coming months.
