We decided to take the weeds and tulips, which we have plenty of, out and plant raspberries. We don’t have any experience growing raspberries, but we’d figured we give a shot. I know they can get pretty big so we will just have to see how they work in this space. The goal: a weekend getaway.</p> <p>Living in central Illinois, we’ve been to Chicago and St. Louis many times, so our semi-short driving distance trips leave us a bit limited in our landlocked location.</p> <p>Around 5 am, we decided it was going to be Nashville. We hopped in the car with no real plans on where to go or what to do once we were there, we just knew we were going. Adventure!</p> <p>We got in around 1:00 and made a few stops that were nearby: The Antique Archaeology store (oh, Hey, Mike Wolfe!) as well as the LOVELY sweets shop next door where I got a rose flavored, chocolate-dipped homemade marshmallow and a tea. The owner had a British accent and so naturally the tea just tasted more…authentic? Maybe I was just charmed by the accent.</p> <p>A lot of this trip consisted of eating. Because…eating is part of the experience, right? Just to name a few of our stops: Silly Goose (my wrap and couscous pictured), Mas Tacos, Five Points Pizza, Pancake Pantry, Sky Blue Cafe, Fido…probably more that I’m forgetting.</p> <p>One of the most MAGICAL places we discovered was Leiper’s Fork. It was like a dream—-the rolling grassy hills and massive fenced properties, the glass bottle sodas, the sweet smell of hot, sweet, fresh cut grass—-it seemed like a place that might be off limits to anything ugly, negative, or tense. It was just what I needed.</p> <p>Overall, three days were just enough to recharge. To remind myself that when you have a window open for adventures, to take it. To go, to see…and to eat.</p> </blockquote> <p>Nashville was great. One of my favorite cities for it’s great food, vibe, and beautiful bungalows. When I first started hitching rides to go see these guys play when I was in 7th grade, I didn’t think I would one day call them some of my best friends. Now, after a few years off they’re back and going to be releasing a new album based on a novel that Ladd, the lead singer, has been writing for past two years. There are tomatoes, cantaloupe, carrots, onions…a little bit of everything. I absolutely hate winter. A week of winter is more than enough for me. However, the one thing it does do is make you appreciate the other seasons. Yesterday, Kaleigh and I worked out in the yard for six hours. We raked, cleaned out gutters, got the grill out, among other things. Yard work sucks, but I actually enjoy it. It feels good to get it all cleaned up. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, we will get our garden planted and some serious landscaping done.
